Position Title: Part-Time Animal Control
Department(s): Animal Shelter
Reports to (Title): Animal Shelter Superintendent
Rate up to: $15.00
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent responds to animal-related emergencies 24-hours a day on a rotating schedule that are dispatched by the police department or by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Drives department van which responds to animal related emergencies 24-hours a day on a rotating schedule.
2. Removes injured and deceased animals from the City, and transports animals to shelter for proper care or disposal.
3. Feeds and waters sheltered animals on the weekend, and cleans shelter and washes down pens on the weekend.
4 Files reports on every call giving a detailed description of the animal and the location where it was found.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Appears as witness in court as needed.

Incumbent performs duties out of doors, and is required to respond to citizens' complaints regardless of weather conditions. Incumbent is frequently exposed to hazards associated with the capture of unfriendly and/or diseased animals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL AND METAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to capture and properly handle a variety of animals of different temperaments and in various conditions of health. (M,P)
2. Possess ability to lift and carry large dogs and other animals up to 70 pounds in the performance of animal capture, care, and handling. Physical effort is frequently exerted for sustained periods of time. (P)
3. Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with the general public in a courteous and tactful manner. (M,P)
4. Possess a valid driver's license. (M,P)
5. Possess a phone at home residence. (P)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Incumbent must possess the working knowledge of applicable animal control ordinances, and ability to capture and properly handle a variety of animals of different temperaments, and in various conditions of health.
