PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent serves as Urban Forester and has the primary responsibility for implementing the Muncie Urban Forestry Program policies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to administers, develop, coordinate, monitor, and manage comprehensive Urban Forestry Program.
2. Provides technical assistance to individuals of tree and plant diseases and their eradication and control.
3. Ability to instruct others in the safe use of tree maintenance tools and equipment.
4. Provide instructions on methods and use of power equipment in the care of trees and other vegetation.
5. Develop guidelines of safe tree trimming and tree climbing practices.
6. Monitors policies, procedures, and practices of the Urban Forestry Program, and maintain accurate records of its implementation.
OTHER JOB FUNCTION:
1. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possess knowledge and experience in the application of urban forestry concepts. (M)
2. Ability to climb trees and use power equipment for care and maintenance of trees and other vegetation. (M,P)
3. Ability to identify, analyze, and independently resolve routine problems. (M)
4. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with city administration, various city departments, the Muncie Urban Forestry Committee, and local organizations. (M,P)
5. Ability to communicate with members of the general public in a courteous and tactful manner, both orally and in written form. (M,P)
6. Ability to work effectively as part of a project team. (M)
7. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. (M,P)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Incumbent must hold a bachelor of science degree in forestry, horticulture, park management, landscape architecture, botany, natural resources, or agronomy.
